1. What is qualifying degree ?
It is the last degree you have completed before joining the PhD programme. For example, if you had completed MSc before joining PhD, it will be MSc. JRF/GATE etc. are not qualifying degrees as far as PMRF is concerned.
2. I have some publications. Do I need to attach them ?
It is best to attach them as a single file (merge all of them into one pdf file).
3. Do I need to mention details of every semester in my qualifying degree ?
You should attach marksheets with details of all courses done in the qualifying degree and/or Bachelors degree (in the uploads section at the end).
4. Do I need to get the degree/marksheet attested ?
It is ok to self-attest it. You can also download from your univeristy web-site and sign it.
5. For lateral entry candidates, if I have done more than 4 courses, should I enter the best 4 only ?
No, enter all of them. CGPA shown in the grade card would be considered.
6. What is statement of purpose ?
It is a letter of intent showing why you want PMRF and in general, why you want to do PhD ? Note that lateral entry students should not attach statement of purpose, this is only meant for direct entry candidates.
7. Is there any page limit for research proposal or statement of purpose ?
Research Proposal (For Lateral Entry Applicants): 3 page maximum , indicate Background, Motivation, Research Objectives, Tentative Timelines.Single column or two column format is fine. Figures if any should be legible and readable. Add references if applicable.
Statement of Purpose (for Direct Entry Applicants) One page max.
8. What does experience mean ? Do my internships count ?
It refers to any kind of job experience. You could add internships. You can also add any other job you have held. It is not mandatory to fill this. But it is very important that if you mention any such experience, you add supporting documents like recommendation letter or certificate(s).
9. I have to write a short description of research, but I have been given 200 or 400 characters only.
It is too less.You only need to write the broad research area here, like “algorithmic game theory” or “robot motion planning” or “quantum algorithms”.
10. What are criteria 1(a), 1(b), 1(c) for direct entry ?
It is best to check with your PMRF coordinator, but refer to pmrf.in for the criteria (check under the “eligibility” tab).
